How to Choose the Color of Your New Siding

A fresh coat of paint can help highlight the best features of your exterior and make it stand out from the neighborhood. If you are stuck on which siding color to select, keep reading.

  • Let the architectural style of your home determine the color palette. If you have a classic Craftsman home, you want a rugged and earthy color scheme for your exterior. Deep reds, rich browns and olive greens work exceptionally well. For Tuscan-style homes, choose your stone color before picking a siding color that complements it. Meanwhile, a Mediterranean home is identified by its terracotta roof. All you need to do is find a soft, peach-colored paint that matches it.
  • Choose the main siding color. When choosing a siding color, take a good look at the color in the location where it will be used. Request a sample of the paint you are interested in, and take it home with you to inspect it in full daylight.
  • Choose a secondary siding color. If you picked out a cool neutral as the main siding color, give it contrast by adding a warm secondary color. This will help elevate the color scheme of your home.
  • Choose a trim color. Do not forget to add trim and accent colors to finish the look of your siding installation. White trim is a classic color that goes well with every color palette. However, if your siding colors are neutral or muted, a bold and vibrant trim color will give your home the splash of color it needs.
