How Seamless Gutters Trump Sectional Gutters

A properly functioning gutter system is one of the most important parts of a residential roofing system. Without it, water runoff can flood basements, damage foliage and do all sorts of water damage around your home.

There are generally two types of gutters: seamed or sectional gutters and seamless gutters.

Seamed or sectional gutters are installed by joining or fastening smaller sections of gutter at the seams while seamless gutters require a specialized machine to form the gutters on-site according to exact measurements.

Many homeowners choose sectional gutters because of two main reasons: they cost less, and they’re easier to install. DIY enthusiasts can install them, although installing your own gutters is not recommended.

When you install seamless gutters, you need the expertise and equipment of a professional roofer. They may cost more than sectional gutters, but seamless gutters offer several advantages over their seamed counterparts.

Seamless Gutters Are a Perfect Fit

Seamless gutters are custom-fashioned for your home, so you can be sure that they are a perfect fit. This means they look better and perform more reliably than seamed gutters.

Seamless Gutters Are Low Maintenance

There are only a few joints where debris can get stuck, unlike with sectional gutters where there are plenty of joints that can trap leaves, branches, pine needles, etc. Animals like birds prefer sectional gutters for building their nests as seamless gutters don’t offer much support for nests. You don’t have to spend too much time cleaning your gutters if they are seamless.

Seamless Gutters Are Less Likely to Develop Leaks

Joints are the first areas where leaks are likely to develop because they can widen and come loose. Rust often starts at the joints as well. With fewer joints, seamless gutters don’t usually have these problems.

Seamless Gutters Offer Lasting Appeal

Seamless gutters are often aluminum, but they can also be constructed with steel or copper, which is the most beautiful gutter material. When your gutters are seamless, they last a long time looking beautiful. Most seamless gutter materials can be painted to match your home’s exterior.
