How to Design a Monochromatic Kitchen

A monochromatic design brings a contemporary appeal to a kitchen and creates a striking backdrop with similar colors. If you are thinking about designing a monochromatic kitchen for your home, use these essential tips to get your wheels turning.

Use Different Shades of the Same Color

Once you have decided on a color you want in your kitchen, explore variations of that color. Ideally, you want to use complementary hues that can blend into your color palette to create dimension and texture in the space. The subtle differences in undertones can help define elements that the naked eye might not gravitate toward.

Make the Walls Light and the Floor Dark

You can approach a monochromatic kitchen using this design or do the reverse, making the walls dark and the floor light. What is important is that you give these elements enough contrast in hue to break up the monochrome where the two converse.

Use Accessories to Create Contrast

Kitchens usually have cooking utensils and tools on the countertops. Take this opportunity to infuse splashes of color that mix well with the monochromatic theme. For example, hanging towels in ocean blue offer a cool and inviting burst of color in an otherwise all-white background. Carefully consider the accessories you want to include in the overall look of your kitchen.

Consider an All-White Theme

There are many ways you can achieve a monochromatic kitchen design, but all-white is a classic that will look great for several years to come. Being able to pull it off is the concern. Opt for high-quality cabinets and countertops to make sure the materials will maintain their vibrant appearance.
