Design Tips for a Timeless Bathroom

The bathroom is one of the most-used rooms in your home, so it only makes sense to choose a design that won’t go out of fashion in just a few years. In today’s post, the home remodelers at Ben’s Construction Inc. share design tips for a timeless bathroom.

Choose a Neutral Color Palette

They may sound boring, but neutral color palettes have unmatched longevity — this is why bathroom fixtures and tiles are sold in white, beige or some other neutral color. It helps to think of a neutral color palette as a canvas that lets you add and change pops of color as you see fit. It’s a more forgiving color choice as you can change furniture and decor without clashing with the rest of the bathroom. Neutral colors are also better at diffusing light, creating an evenly-lit space.

Install Subway or Penny Tiles

Subway tiles are named after the white rectangular tiles found in New York subway stations, while penny tiles are unglazed circular tiles. What these two have in common is that they’ve outlasted trends, and continue to be installed in thousands of bathrooms. While penny tiles create a more interesting design, it’s worth noting that its small size means installation will require more labor, and therefore take longer to finish.

Install a Freestanding Bathtub

Designers often recommend space-saving fixtures to reclaim space, but a freestanding tub can add a sense of timelessness that simply can’t be achieved with their in-set counterparts. If your bathroom has the floor area to spare, a freestanding bathtub is a great option not just for looks, but also for function: having free access around the tub will make bathing young children and elderly family members a lot easier.

Choose Natural Stone Countertops

Naturally-occurring materials never go out of style. If you have the option to do so, choose natural stone countertops. They’re durable, beautiful and no two slabs are the same. It’s important to note that naturally-quarried materials like marble typically have higher maintenance requirements than manufactured ones.
